Dottie’s Clothing Swap & Drive

Here’s a message/idea from Dottie Reiss which we’re going to experiment with for a few months.

Dottie writes:

Folks have told me they’re enjoying the book-swap idea. I’d like to propose a NEW/LIKE-NEW clothing swap. During the months of May and June, feel free to drop new/like-new clothing in the large box in the UUS:E coat room. If there’s anything in the box that catches your eye, it’s yours for the taking!

How many of us outgrow clothing before we use it, or receive the wrong size when ordering online? Or maybe you’ve been given a gift that doesn’t fit right and you’d like to re-gift it. Or maybe it would be fun to alter something you find attractive and don’t have to pay for. Let’s try this during the months of May and June. I will bring any excess to Saver’s approximately every three weeks.

Questions? Contact me at [email protected] or (860)335-1293.

With love,
Dottie Reiss

The Community of Earth

On Saturday March 4, 2-4 PM the congregation is invited to view a new art show collaborative entitled, “The Community of Earth”.  Families are welcome.  Refreshments will be served.

“Mahjabeen” is one of a series of portraits I’m working on of world religious leaders that I met at a conference on Star Island last summer. The conference was on Cross-cultural Conversations, and this resonated with me as an important and necessary component of our Community of Earth. That is what inspired me to coordinate this themed exhibit and to ask all of the artists to express their own interpretation of the Community of Earth.

The Chocolate Auction Returns!!

UUS:E Pre-Valentine’s Day Chocolate Auction!!!!
Sunday, February 12th, 12:30 PM
Featuring special guest, Chef Ken Bergeron

Chef Ken Bergeron (former owner of It’s Only Natural Restaurant in Middletown, CT) will discuss baking desserts with vegan chocolate. He will be sharing a recipe from his cookbook Professional Vegetarian Cooking and giving out samples to taste. This event is co-sponsored by the brand new CT Vegan Center

The chocolate auction will follow Chef Ken’s presentation:

When: Sunday afternoon, February 12th, 12:30 PM

Why: Because chocolate is awesome, and a chocolate auction is a great way to raise $$$$ for UUS:E!

How:  Well, it’s pretty simple, actually. We need BAKERS and BIDDERS (and a few volunteers to help out)

All members and friends of UUS:E are invited to create chocolate confections (cookies, brownies, cakes, cupcakes, and any other kind of chocolate dessert you can imagine). Bring your creations to the meeting house on the 12th (include your name and a list of ingredients). Please let Rev. Josh know you are bringing something for the auction at [email protected].

Then, come to the auction at 12:30 on the Feb. 12th and bid on whatever looks best to you! Bring your check book or cash and pay when you collect your confection.

It’s that simple!!!

We need 3-4 volunteers to help out on the 12th. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact Rev. Josh at [email protected] or 860-646-5151!
