It’s time to register for the 2021-2022 Religious Education Program
It’s time to register for Unitarian Universalist Society: East’s 2021-2022 Religious Education Program. Programming will be a bit different this year. Actually, it will be significantly different! Our aim is not to try to replicate our typical program in a virtual format, but rather to intentionally adapt our focus and goals. In keeping with the UUA’s guidance, no programming, including worship services and Religious Education, will take place in the building until it can be done so safely. After much discussion and a great deal of discernment, we have decided that the focus of this year’s RE program will be to foster and strengthen children’s and families’ connections to one another, to the congregation, and to the larger UU faith community. Most importantly, we hope to be a consistent source of love and support to our children and youth in a time when the world feels upside down and unpredictable.
We know that most kids will now be spending a considerable amount of time in front of a computer screen engaged in virtual learning. Zoom fatigue is real, and the last thing any kid needs right now is to be expected to participate in yet another virtual class after school or on the weekend. This is why we have opted not to use our typical RE curricula. Although we will, by necessity, be virtual, this year’s programming will not follow the usual lesson, craft, game format. Instead, our program will utilize audio-visual media to teach and explore topics such as social justice, equity, the environment, religion, and spirituality.
