Greetings CYM Families & Friends!
It was awesome to see many UUSE folks, including several children and youth, at the protest at the Capitol on President’s Day. There’s no need to mince words, this is a very tough time for our country. I’m thinking a lot about how the needs of our families within this national landscape intersects with what we offer and do through Children & Youth Ministry at UUSE. If you don’t often have time to read my column in the monthly newsletter, I invite you to give it a look this March to learn more about my approach to this. I’d also like to highlight the “How You Can Help CYM” section at the bottom of this communication, as there are a number of needs in the ask section. Lastly, if you’re finding yourself eager to take action, to plug in to purposeful community work at UUSE and beyond, please reach out to me. I have some impactful opportunities in the works! Each and everyone of us carries unique gifts and perspectives, and there is power in numbers. Community Is Resistance!
Here’s what’s happening in Children & YouthMinistry on Sunday, February 23, 2025:
@11 AM
All Congregation Worship
All children and youth from birth through high school are invited to join their families and friends in the Sanctuary for the entire worship service this Sunday. The nursery is open and available for children age 3 and younger.
Sunday Service: “Inclusion and Exclusion” - This is an All Congregation Service through which you may learn how inclusion and exclusion can impact you.
Coordinators: Anne Vogel and Ellen Williams
Nursery (Age 3 and under): Childcare is available in our Nursery on the Garden Level at 11 AM for children 3 and under. Care is provided by two regular childcare staff including our Nursery Coordinator Molly, our Nursery Assistant Lilly. Our nursery staff have grown up at UUSE, and are equipped with loads of experience, patience, and creativity to keep our youngest UUs safe and engaged. Families are always welcome to tour and stay in the nursery at any time.
Junior Youth Group (Grades 6-8): JYG has a fun outing planned to play pickleball Sunday afternoon! JYG volunteers Adam Bender and Jen Klee will meet junior youth at 12:15 a UUSE. From there they will venture out for lunch at Subway (treated by our JYG leaders - thank you!) Pickleball will commence from 1-3PM at 10 Pitkin Rd in Vernon (in the Stop & Shop plaza, across from the 99 Restaurant off Rt. 30). Parents can pick them up there and youth should wear sneakers and clothes they can run around in. Bring a water bottle and $20 for the the court time and lesson.
After service this coming Sunday, February 23rd, at 1:00 PM, members of the UUSE ConstitutionalChangeTaskForce will be available in the sanctuary to discuss their proposals, which you can read here. All are welcome. Those who wish to join the conversation online can do so through the regular Sunday Service Zoom link: Contact the Office for Zoom Link. Please feel free to bring a lunch.
Please note: The UUSE Policy Board has agreed to hold a congregational meeting on Sunday afternoon, March 30th, for the purpose of voting on constitutionalchanges recommended by the ConstitutionalChangeTaskForce and the UUA Discernment Taskforce. The call letter for that meeting will be sent in early March.
