Dear UUS:E Members and Friends:
It is with profound sadness that I write to inform you of the death of Pawel Jura, UUS:E’s former Music Director. I received this news Wednesday evening via a phone call from the minister at the Unitarian Univeraslist Congregation of Fairfax, VA where Pawel was serving as Director of Music and Arts. At the time of writing this message, the cause of Pawel’s death is still under investigation. We are waiting to hear from the Alexandria, VA police.
Pawel has been deeply missed at UUS:E since his departure for Virginia in July. His musical gifts, warmth, humor, intellect, meticulousness–his smile–touched all of us. His death is a blow to all who knew and loved him. Knowing this, I am cancelling all my scheduled events today (Thursday, Feb. 26th) and will welcome anyone who wants to come to UUS:E for pastoral care, conversation, community, mourning, etc. starting at noon. This includes children and youth.
Then, tonight at 7:00 PM in the UUS:E sanctuary, we will hold a vigil in honor of Pawel. All are welcome.
Finally, I will attempt to communicate more information about Pawel’s death as it becomes available. I fully expect UUS:E will hold a memorial sevice for Pawel in the coming weeks.
