Chalice Lighting and Opening Song

“Turn Scarlet Leaves”
(Words by Raymond J. Baughan, Music by Mary Bopp)

Sing:

Turn scarlet, leaves
Spin Earth!
Tumble the shadows into dawn
Tumble the shadows into dawn

Speak:

Turn scarlet, leaves
Spin Earth!
Tumble the shadows into dawn
The morning out of night;
Spill stars across these skies
And hide them with the suns

Sing:

Turn scarlet, leaves
Spin Earth!
Tumble the shadows into dawn
Tumble the shadows into dawn

Speak:

Teach me to turn my sullen sense toward marvel/
Let green and red
And dark and day
Concur with the returning life I am

Sing:

Turn scarlet, leaves
Spin Earth!
Tumble the shadows into dawn
Tumble the shadows into dawn

Offering

For the month of October we will be dedicating our community outreach offering to the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Disaster Relief Fund. “Disasters impact our congregations and their communities with increasing rapidity.  Our donation to the UUA Disaster Relief Fund allows the UUA to respond flexibly on your behalf to tragedies that overtake us. Our Disaster Relief Fund is part of a covenant—a covenant between the UUA and congregations, between congregations who give generously and those in need, and with our community partners. Through this work, we are able to embody our faith and values.”

Closing Song

“For the Earth Forever Turning” (Kim Oler)
(#163 in Singing the Living Tradition)

For the earth forever turning; for the skies, for ev’ry sea;
for our lives, for all we cherish, sing we our joyful song of peace.

For the mountains, hills, and pastures in their silent majesty;
for the stars, for all the heavens, sing we our joyful song of peace.

For the sun, for rain and thunder, for the seasons’ harmony,
for our lives, for all creation, sing we our joyful praise to Thee.

For the world we raise our voices, for the home that gives us birth;
in our joy we sing returning home to our bluegreen hills of earth.

Extinguishing the Chalice

Closing Circle

May faith in the spirit of life
And hope for the community of earth
And love of the light in each other
Be ours now, and in all the days to come.
