“Rejoice and Resist:” A Fall Film Fest

In recognition of this year’s UU General Assembly theme, we will screen and discuss three eclectic films celebrating the human spirit in the face of challenge and adversity. Free admission and popcorn!

September: Pride (2014) London gay activists work to help miners in Wales during a lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers in 1984. “Brilliantly Entertaining” (The New Yorker). Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton.

October: The Grapes of Wrath (1940) Depression-era Oklahoma Dust Bowl farmers set out for a better life in California in this John Ford masterpiece. Henry Fonda, Jane Darwell.

November: 42 (2013) The story of Jackie Robinson’s rise to fame as a Brooklyn Dodger and a trailblazer in sports history. Chadwick Boseman as Robinson, Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey.
