Unitarian Universalist Society: East Buddhist Group

Tibetan Buddhist Monks from the Gaden Jangtse Monastery in South India create a mandala.

Join the UUS:E Buddhist Group on First Tuesdays at 7 P.M.. and turn your mind toward an auspicious 2013. We often make resolutions to do things differently — change our diet, visit new places, be nicer, get a new job, meditate. But often we fail to achieve those things because we’re not looking at our intentions, which direct our actions, speech, and thoughts. This also ties in with discernment, January’s ministry theme. In Buddhism, discernment is also called clear-seeing, the ability to see things as they are without the filters of habitual thought or social conditioning. The Buddhist Group meets at 7 P.M. in Room 2 for meditation, teaching, and discussion. No experience necessary.

The Buddhist Group offers a place to meditate, study, and explore Buddhist teachings as they relate to our lives. Each session begins with a meditation period, followed by a teaching on an aspect of Buddhism and discussion. Nancy Thompson, a teacher with the Interdependence Project, leads the group.

1st Tuesday of every month, 7 p.m.
