Chalice Lighting and Opening Words (W.E.B. DuBois)

Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow, not some more convenient season. It is today that our best work can be done and not some future day or future year. It is today that we fit ourselves for the greater usefulness of tomorrow. Today is the seed time, now are the hours of work, and tomorrow comes the harvest and the play-time.

Opening Hymn  “We Are a Gentle, Angry People” (Holly Near)

We are a gentle, angry people,
and we are singing, singing for our lives.
We are a gentle, angry people,
and we are singing, singing for our lives.

 We are a justice-seeking people…

We are a land of many colors…

We are gay and straight together….

We are all in this together….

We are a gentle, loving people…

Offering

Our Community Outreach Offering team has asked that for the months of June and July we  dedicate our Sunday offerings to organizations addressing the problem of food insecurity in the greater Manchester area. However, given the national—even global—Black Lives Matter uprising in response to the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25th, we will take our collection this week for Moral Monday CT. Many of you are familiar with Moral Monday, founded by our good friends, Bishop John Selders and Lady Pamela Selders. Moral Monday is a statewide coalition of individuals and organizations brought together by the power of the Movement for Black Lives. They have been very supportive of our congregation in responding to the police shooting of Jose Jay Soto in Manchester on April 2nd; and in recent weeks they have been working tirelessly in response to unfolding events across the state of CT. Thanks you for your generosity at this critical time.

Offering Music “I Need to Wake Up” (Melissa Etheridge) (Performed by Kate Howard-Bender)

Homily “In This Moment, the Call is Clear” (Rev. Josh Pawelek)

Closing Hymn “Circle Round for Freedom” (Linda Hirschhorn)

Circle ‘round for freedom, circle ‘round for peace,
for all of us imprisoned, circle for release,
circle for the planet, circle for each soul,
for the children of our children, keep the circle whole.

Extinguishing the Chalice

Closing Circle

May faith in the spirit of life

And hope for the community of earth

And love of the light in each other

Be ours now, and for all the days the come.
