Mission of this Group/Committee:
Programs, Opportunities, Activities and Work of the Group/Committee:
The Committee of Adults and Youth (CAY) holds formal, monthly meetings at UUS:E, usually scheduled on the second Monday evening of the month from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.
The Youth Group (ages 14-18) and Young Adult Group (ages 19-35) of UUS:E are important and enthusiastic parts of our community. The Committee of Adults and Youth (CAY) helps to build the bridge between these two groups and the UUS:E community. CAY helps to provide the possibilities for activities and to facilitate the implementation of directions for youth and young adults, providing assistance when needed.
Some of the activities for our Youth Group have included scheduled "lock-ins" (sleepovers), the hosting of Clara Barton District's Spirituality Development Conference (CBD's "Con"), participation in "Massive Cons" sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), Bridging Ceremonies for departing Senior High School Youth Group members. CAY has developed job descriptions and code of ethics policies for our Youth Group leaders and also had worked on the possibility for future consideration of a paid Youth Group Advisor at UUS:E.
Activities by our Young Adult Group (YAG) centered around a topic-focused discussion group and social gatherings that occur twice monthly. Last year, the group had participated in a successful and enlightening retreat weekend held in Kent, CT. Some of the group members also attended the UUS:E-facilitated camping activity in Massachusetts over the Memorial Day weekend in the past few years. Many of the young adults and youth have volunteered their time with additional activities such as the Holiday Craft Fair, the holiday music choir, Christmas in April, STAR tutoring, Soup Kitchen, as a Religious Education Assistant, etc.
