FRIDAY NIGHT FILM SERIES!
Everyone Welcome!
Friday, May 11th at 7:00 PM in the RE Common Area
The Social Justice Committee is sponsoring a film series at UUS:E the second Friday of every month at 7:00 PM. This is your chance to catch up with movies related to social and economic justice issues that you may have heard mentioned on public radio saw a review of in a magazine, or that flew by you in a university film forum.
This month on Friday, May 11th at 7:00 PM, in the RE Common Area (downstairs), the Social Justice Committee is collaborating with the Accessibility Committee for the presentation of Mozart and the Whale. This is a humorous romance about the fascinating relationship between two people who have Asperger's Syndrome, a disability that falls on the autism spectrum. Our schools and communities are exploding with growing numbers of individuals who have autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and we are all scrambling to learn how to relate to others who are unique in this complex world. Come learn about the range of characteristics and abilities of ASD and get a glimpse of how these children can grow into successful adults with positive relationships. This film, inspired by true events, can help us all learn a lot . . . just about developing relationships with each other!
If you need childcare in order to attend this event, please contact Annie at UUS:E (646-1515) at least one week in advance of the movies (no later than Friday, May 4th).
Please join us for a provocative Friday night at the movies! Popcorn, and time great discussion afterwards. For more information, contact Susan Randolph (647-8634) or Deborah Walker (643-5579).
CUREJ to hold Interfaith Worship at Bethel AME
On Thursday evening, May 24, at 7:00 PM, Congregations United for Racial Equality and Justice (CUREJ) will hold an interfaith worship service at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church at 1154 Blue Hills Ave. in Bloomfield, CT. This service will celebrate CUREJ’s work on environmental justice legislation, and provide an opportunity for interfaith, interracial sharing and fellowship. Rev. Johnson of Bethel and Rev. Josh from UUS:E will lead the service, which will feature an interfaith choir. Contact Rev. Josh for more details at (860) 652-8961 or revpawelek@sbcglobal.net.
